The Full Story
About
The first Barkfest was held in Cambridge in 2025. After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback, we are excited to once again deliver a Cambridge event, alongside a second event in Tauranga.

Vision
Barkfest aspires to be New Zealand’s premier community celebration of all things dogs. A free, community- focused, vibrant, fun-filled festival where dogs and their humans come together for a day of entertainment, education, competition, connection, and celebration. The event aims to promote responsible dog ownership, showcase pet products and suppliers, support local businesses and charities, and provide a free fun day for the pet-loving community.

Meet the Team
Barkfest is proudly owned and delivered by Janette Douglas, founder of The Events Collective. While event management is Janette's profession, Barkfest is very much a passion project that brings together two of her favourite things – creating memorable community events and celebrating the special bond we share with our dogs.
With more than 20 years of experience delivering events across New Zealand, Janette is passionate about creating experiences that are safe, inclusive, welcoming, and fun for everyone. Barkfest was created to bring together dog lovers, local businesses, rescue organisations, and the wider community in a way that celebrates our four-legged family members.
Of course, no introduction would be complete without mentioning Badger – Janette's beloved sidekick, and the star of approximately 99% of her camera roll. In many ways, Barkfest is designed with dogs like Badger in mind, creating a day out that is fun, safe, and enjoyable for dogs and their humans alike.
